How the Teacher Directory Works

The Teacher Directory links prospective teachers with schools where they can complete their journeys to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Below you will find guidance for schools looking for teachers and prospective teachers looking for host schools.

Thank you for sending through such great candidates – it made the selection process difficult (in a good way!)

Teacher Apprentice, Host School, August 2024

The Teacher Directory

The Teacher Directory is a database of vetted teachers ready to begin Initial Teacher Training (ITT).

Prospective teachers will have undergone eligibility checks and ITT-readiness interviews before being added to the Teacher Directory.

All applicants have been ratified by our Head of Primary and Secondary to ensure the very best future teachers are supported to be matched with schools. All trainees, prior to starting their programme, will hold a full DBS check and completed safeguarding level 2 course and health check.

How it works

Step 1 - Register your details

You only need to do this once. This will ensure you receive regular updates about trainees that match your teacher recruitment criteria.

Register your school details

Step 2 - Commence your search

Using our filters you can search for trainees near to your school postcode. You can filter to search for specific phases and subjects.

Find a prospective teacher

Step 3 - Register your interest

If you identify a trainee you would like to find out more about, you can send us a notification via their profile and our placement team will get in touch to discuss next steps. Our placement team will take the hassle away and act as the go between to ensure the process runs smoothly.

We strongly encourage schools and trainees to meet (as a meet and greet at the school setting) or as a more informal interview, to ensure both you and your potential future teacher feel it is a good fit!

Step 4 - Feedback and offer

Once the interview process has been completed, we will share your feedback with the prospective teacher(s) and relay any offer that you would like to make. This will kick start the formal offer and enrolment process.

Step 5- Formalising the offer and enrolling

If you are formalising the offer to a Teacher Apprentice, you will follow your normal recruitment/HR practices with employment contracts, and we will commence the enrolment process for the teacher apprenticeship.

If you have made an offer to a fee-funded (unsalaried) trainee, we will ensure you receive our Placement Agreement form to understand the role and responsibilities of providing an unsalaried placement.

Our Placement Team are on hand to answer any questions you may have, pop us an email teach@bestpracticenet.co.uk and our friendly team will get in touch.

Step 6 - Your teacher will commence the programme on August 29

Once all the paperwork is completed, your apprentice or trainee teacher will start work on August 29. They will be in the classroom and teaching from the first week of September.
