Fewer pupils are missing school

Absence rates in schools have decreased from 5.3% in autumn 2012 and spring 2013 to 4.4% in autumn 2013 and spring 2014, which is the lowest percentage since 2006. This is in line with the government’s initiatives to encourage increased attendance in school. This includes pushing schools to deal with continuous absence from the outset, for which the threshold has been reduced from 20% to 15%.
