Nurseries to give children a better start in life

EYFSP statistics are showing that too few infants and toddlers are ready for school. Nurseries are now being urged to take action.

To combat this, the government is introducing a number of initiatives to support those children who are falling behind:

  1. The Early Years Pupil Premium to provide extra funding for high quality specialist support to the more disadvantaged children.
  2. Teachers now have to meet new higher standards and have to pass the same skills tests as trainee school teachers.
  3. Early Years Educators will all now need at least a C grade in English and Maths.
  4. £5 million of new funding will be available to encourage local areas to improve before the Pupil Premium is introduced in April 2015.
