CACHE Level 3 Award - Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare

This qualification, which has been developed in collaboration with the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY), prepares learners to set up a home based childcare setting.

It is also suitable for learners who wish to be employed in home based childcare settings as childminding assistants or other home childcarers (e.g. nannies, au pairs).

 

Who is this for?

This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 or over who wish to work as:
  • childminders
  • childminding assistants
  • nannies
  • au pairs
  • other childcarers in home based settings

Eligibility

Entry requirements

This is a knowledge-only qualification, therefore no placement in a real work environment is required.

What are the benefits?

This programme will fully prepare you for employment in, or to set up your own, home based childcare setting.

It also provides a useful introduction to the CACHE’s Early Years Educator qualifications.

How is it delivered?

The qualification will take approximately 50 learning hours to complete and will be delivered via our online learning environment and supported by high quality resources and expert tutoring. During your study you will undertake two mandatory units, which will provide 6 credits, comprising of the following:

5 credits - Preparing to work as a home based childcarer (Unit no: H/506/4745)

  • legislation and regulation relating to home based childcare
  • safeguarding and child protection health and safety in a home based childcare environment
  • promoting equality, diversity and inclusion
  • day to day care routines for children
  • working in partnership
  • children’s learning and development
  • play and the role of observation

1 credit - Preparing to set up a home based childcare business (Unit no: K/506/4746)

  • leading and managing a home based childcare setting
  • financial and taxation requirements when setting up a home based childcare setting
  • creating a business plan
  • registration requirements for home based childcarers

This qualification will be assessed through provision of a portfolio of evidence, written assignments and tasks.

What does it cost?

The price of the qualification is £180 +VAT. This includes full access to the Best Practice Network learning environment for 6 months, as well as membership to our Early Years Network.
